Department of Cooperatives is a government institution under the Department of Rural Development and Cooperatives of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.  Since 1904, this organization has been working for the socio-economic development, job creation and poverty alleviation of the people of all classes and professions of the country by inspiring the people of this country with 7 ideals of cooperatives.  The co-operative movement in this country is governed by 8 international norms.  Cooperatives are based on democracy, equality and solidarity and its goal is self-reliance and self-reliance.  Although co-operatives were started in this country to support the agrarian economy, co-operatives have now expanded their activities in almost all spheres of the economy.  In line with government programs and public interest, the Department of Cooperatives has been carrying out its responsibilities by forming, Electing, raising capital, enhancing vocational skills, motivating,microfinance activities and inspiring various business activities.  All the officers / employees of Upazila Cooperative Office, District Cooperative Office, Divisional Cooperative Office, Regional Cooperative Education, Bangladesh Cooperative Academy and Cooperative Department have been providing necessary assistance to the members of National, Central and Primary Cooperative Societies to develop them skilled human resources by training including legal aid.
